Atiku Seeks Independent Probe of ₦33.75bn Cash Transfer Audit Queries

Atiku Abubakar has called for an independent review of ₦33.75 billion reportedly paid to 3.29 million vulnerable households under the Federal Government’s cash-transfer programme. He said audit queries have raised doubts about whether the funds reached the intended beneficiaries. The former vice president said the amount works out at about ₦10,258 per household, which he described as inadequate amid rising transport, food and electricity costs. He also questioned discrepancies in government figures on the number of households that benefited from the intervention. Atiku said his team would assemble financial, audit, technology and public-accounting experts to examine beneficiary records, payment channels, reconciliation documents and audit queries. He asked the government to publish verifiable payment evidence, recover any missing funds and prosecute officials found to have diverted public money.
