Ortom Demands Account of Benue’s ₦1.2tn FAAC Inflows Since 2023
Former Benue Governor Samuel Ortom has asked Governor Hyacinth Alia to account for about ₦1.2 trillion allegedly received by the state and its 23 local governments from the Federation Account since 2023. Speaking through his former media adviser, Terver Akase, Ortom said the increased allocations followed the removal of the petrol subsidy. He questioned the projects funded with the money and the limited government presence in many local government areas. Governor Alia’s spokesman, Tersoo Kula, rejected the criticism. He said higher federal allocations do not amount to unlimited resources, citing inflation, insecurity, rising construction costs and the cost of governance.
