Ukweni Gives Cross River AG Seven-Day Ultimatum Over Cocoa Estate Order
Human rights lawyer Mba Ukweni (SAN) has challenged Cross River’s Attorney General, Ededem Ani, to retract a statement that undermines a recent court ruling on the Etung cocoa estate. Ukweni warned that the AG’s refusal to comply with the court verdict shows insincerity. Ukweni inaugurated a “Team Obey Court Order” taskforce to protect cocoa farmers after one allottee was killed on government land. He said the farmers acted in self-defence while waiting for justice and queried why the killers remain unprosecuted. The lawyer issued a seven-day ultimatum for an apology and retraction. He stressed that, as a party to the case, the AG must obey the court or face their reaction. Ukweni’s firm is prepared to take further legal steps to safeguard the farmers’ rights. Efforts to reach the Attorney General for comment were unsuccessful as his line was unavailable.
