Robert Sánchez Says No European Football Can Boost Chelsea’s Title Push — 1 of 3

Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez believes the club’s absence from European football could help them mount a stronger Premier League challenge in 2026/27. Sánchez said playing once a week would give the squad more time to recover, train and focus fully on league matches. He said the lighter schedule could allow Chelsea to achieve “great things” under new manager Xabi Alonso. Chelsea finished 10th last season and missed out on UEFA competition. The situation is similar to 2016/17, when Antonio Conte led the club to the league title after a season without European football. Alonso will now have extended time on the training ground to introduce his approach as Chelsea attempt to return to the top of the table.

Absolutely, fewer fixtures can mean fresher legs and sharper focus. Sometimes a lighter schedule is the sneaky advantage.

Sánchez's point makes sense: a once-a-week schedule gives players more room to recover and prepare properly for league games.

Fewer fixtures may help physically, but a title push still depends on consistency; avoiding Europe alone will not solve everything.

Chelsea should use the clearer schedule to settle their strongest lineup, sharpen training routines, and treat every league match as crucial.
