I Cheated on My Girlfriend to Protect Myself From Getting Hurt
I have been with my girlfriend for about a year, though we have broken up and reunited several times. I love her and expect exclusivity, but I have cheated on her with three women. For me, the cheating was never about replacing her or building another relationship. It was about sex, flirting and a fear of becoming too emotionally dependent on one person. I know that reasoning is unhealthy, but being with other people made me feel less vulnerable. My girlfriend discovered my first betrayal and forgave me. Later, I found out that she had also been talking to other people. That discovery deepened my trust issues, even though I do not know when those conversations began. I am currently trying to stay faithful, but I am unsure whether I can fully trust her or remain committed to the relationship. I genuinely love her, yet I do not know what I will do if the insecurity never goes away.
