Education Ministry Launches ₦365m National Laureate Prize for Tertiary Students
I have announced the Tertiary Institutions National Laureate Prize, a new national scheme designed to reward outstanding research, innovation and academic excellence in Nigerian universities, polytechnics and colleges of education. The prize has an initial annual fund of ₦365 million. Awards include ₦35 million for the Undergraduate Star Prize, ₦50 million for the Master’s Star Prize and ₦100 million for the Doctoral Star Prize. Fifteen Thematic Excellence Prizes, worth ₦12 million each, will also be awarded. Students and researchers in accredited tertiary institutions will be eligible to compete through a transparent, merit-based selection process. Special awards will cover fields such as engineering, medicine, arts, agriculture, law and teaching innovation, including the Dr. Stella Adadevoh Prize for Medicine and Medical Innovation. The scheme is jointly implemented by the Federal Ministry of Education and the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank. It aims to support research and ideas that can create practical value for Nigeria.
