Wike Rejects Tinubu 2027 Campaign DG Role, Says He Must Deliver Rivers and FCT

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike says he would not accept the role of Director-General of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 campaign because his priority is delivering Rivers State and the FCT for the President. Speaking during an inspection of road projects in Abuja, Wike said campaign directors-general risk neglecting their political bases. He cited Rotimi Amaechi, Bukola Saraki, Aminu Tambuwal and Simon Lalong as examples of prominent campaign figures whose states were lost by their preferred candidates. Wike said he is not an APC member and therefore cannot head the party’s campaign council. However, he maintained that he will support Tinubu’s re-election through the cross-party Rainbow Coalition, arguing that political influence should be judged by electoral results rather than campaign titles.
