Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed Poised to Defect to APC Amid Negotiations
Bauchi State Governor and PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman Bala Mohammed is set to join the ruling All Progressives Congress this week. Negotiations are ongoing over his defection terms. Sources say he was offered an APC senatorial ticket and allowances. But the party set strict conditions. President Tinubu refused to hand over the state APC structure. Mohammed can run for Senate but cannot appoint his successor. His move may be linked to the legal troubles of his Finance Commissioner, who allegedly threatened to implicate him over terrorism and money laundering charges. Sources add that Mohammed had to apologize to President Tinubu’s son, Seyi, over past remarks. Seyi Makinde’s camp in the PDP is shocked and disappointed. They view his decision as a betrayal of party efforts. If he defects, the APC will hold 32 governors, leaving the PDP with just one.
