AI Can Help Nigeria Detect Election Result Manipulation, Analaize CEO Says
Nigeria should use artificial intelligence to strengthen election transparency and flag possible manipulation, according to Analaize CEO Mmadubuko Michael. He said AI should not decide election winners. Instead, it could compare polling-unit result sheets with figures transmitted and declared during collation, while flagging mathematical errors, suspicious documents, duplicate sheets and unusual voting patterns. Michael proposed that voters and observers photograph result sheets immediately after they are recorded. The time-stamped records could then be checked against official results from wards, local government areas and states. He said an independent AI-powered monitoring system could help INEC, journalists, observers and political parties investigate discrepancies early and make it harder to alter what voters decided at the polls.
