NLC Threatens Nationwide Action as Talks With Federal Government End in Deadlock
The Nigeria Labour Congress has asked its affiliates, state councils and civil society allies to prepare for possible nationwide action if the Federal Government does not address workers’ demands by October 27. The union said talks at the Ministry of Labour in Abuja ended without any concrete commitment from the government. The meeting was adjourned to allow relevant ministers and heads of agencies to join the next round of discussions. Key demands include a reduction of petrol prices to 2024 levels, renegotiation of the national minimum wage, tax relief measures, and payment of outstanding allowances for public-sector and health workers. The NLC said it remains open to dialogue but warned that its organs would decide the next steps if the government fails to make meaningful progress.
