Ebola Alert: Lagos Steps Up Surveillance, Says No Suspected Case Has Been Found
The Lagos State Government says it has intensified disease surveillance and emergency preparedness after an imported case of Ebola Bundibugyo virus was confirmed in Abuja. It said no suspected Ebola case has been detected in Lagos. Health Commissioner Akin Abayomi said health authorities are working with airport management, Port Health Services and other agencies to strengthen passenger screening, information sharing and emergency response, especially at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport. Residents were urged to remain calm, follow verified public-health updates and seek medical guidance if they may have been exposed to a suspected or confirmed case. Ebola symptoms can include fever, weakness, headache, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain and, in some cases, unexplained bleeding or bruising. The government advised regular handwashing, avoiding contact with the body fluids of sick persons and cooperating with health officials at entry points. Residents with fever were also advised to get tested for malaria before taking antimalarial medicine.
