Three Types of Truth in Ifa: A Personal Reflection

In my understanding, Ifa creates a path for communion with one’s spirit, which can offer guidance beyond ordinary memory and experience. I was taught that truth can appear in three forms: Irete Owonrin, Otura Osa and Iwori Ofun. Irete Owonrin is a truth confirmed when expert guidance leads to a desired result. Otura Osa is a truth established through steadfastness despite opposition, as seen in beliefs, scientific ideas or economic theories that gain acceptance over time. Iwori Ofun is a truth shaped by vision and advantage. It comes from seeing possibilities because of one’s position, opportunity or available resources. A truth may satisfy one of these conditions, but it may not persuade everyone. In my view, a more complete truth should satisfy all three.
