NGX Adds ₦1.293tn as Bargain Hunting Lifts Market

The Nigerian Exchange rebounded during the week, adding ₦1.293 trillion to market capitalisation as renewed buying interest lifted major stocks. The All-Share Index gained 0.81% to close at 241,298.47 points, while market capitalisation rose to ₦155.826 trillion. A market analyst attributed the recovery to bargain hunting in fundamentally strong large-cap companies, particularly in banking and energy. Improved investor sentiment and FTSE Russell’s planned reclassification of Nigeria as a Frontier Market from September 2026 also supported confidence. Trading activity declined from the previous week, with 2.507 billion shares worth ₦123.223 billion traded. Financial services led market activity, while University Press, First HoldCo, Seplat Energy, Red Star Express and Transcorp Hotels were among the top gainers.
