Consent, Culture and African Constitutions

I have shared the Nigerian Constitution before. This post highlights 47 Black African countries to make a broader point: cultural practices should not be forced on anyone. Consent must come first. A couple may choose traditions that work for them, but families and communities should not use pressure, manipulation or threats to make private decisions for them. I believe the idea that culture is compulsory needs to end. Respecting African identity should also mean respecting laws and individual rights meant to protect everyone.
