Gov Sule Blames Abuja Politicians for APC’s Osun Election Defeat

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State says interference by “Abuja politicians” contributed to the APC’s defeat in the August 2026 Osun governorship election. Speaking in Lafia while presenting INEC acknowledgement slips to APC candidates, Sule said the party underestimated the advantage of incumbency. He argued that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s position, grassroots network and perceived performance helped secure his re-election. Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, polled 511,067 votes to defeat APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who received 444,815 votes. Adeleke won 19 of Osun’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11. Sule said the result should serve as a lesson to politicians about strategy and the influence of sitting governors. He also urged reflection on the violence reported during the campaign.
