ASUU Begins Indefinite Strike at Taraba State University Over Unpaid Salaries
The Taraba State University chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities has begun an indefinite strike over alleged non-implementation of an agreed salary structure, unpaid salary arrears and outstanding earned academic allowances. The action took effect on Monday, October 12, after months of talks with the Taraba State Government. The union said it had engaged the government since February 2026, but the agreed remuneration framework had yet to be implemented. A verification committee reportedly submitted its findings on September 24, while the state later set up another committee to review pay and workforce planning across its tertiary institutions. ASUU said further reviews should not delay existing agreements and urged the government to settle the outstanding obligations. The strike has disrupted academic activities at the university and will continue pending progress in negotiations.
