Retired General Tsiga Urges Tough Action to Dismantle Bandit Networks
At a press briefing in Kaduna, retired Brig.-Gen. Maharazu Tsiga warned that negotiations alone cannot end banditry and terrorism in Nigeria. He argued that criminal groups and their backers fear decisive action more than dialogue. Drawing on his own experience in captivity, Tsiga highlighted the role of informants and insiders who supply ammunition and profit from ongoing insecurity. He questioned the effectiveness of talking to bandit leaders while ignoring the wider network that sustains them. Tsiga stressed that security is a collective responsibility and urged communities to support military operations through timely intelligence sharing. He called on citizens to resist intimidation and work hand-in-hand with security agencies to deny criminals safe havens. He insisted that a coordinated and aggressive strategy, backed by public cooperation, is essential to restore lasting peace.
