Udeze Questions Golden Eaglets’ Defeat to Niger at WAFU U-17 Championship

Former Nigeria international Ifeanyi Udeze has expressed disbelief after the Golden Eaglets lost 2-1 to Niger Republic in their opening Group B match at the 2026 WAFU B U-17 Championship. Abdoul Razaq Zada gave Niger the lead in the 20th minute, while Abdoul Rakilou doubled it late in the game. Mubarak Fasiu scored in stoppage time for Nigeria, but the Eaglets could not find an equaliser. Niger Republic have reached the semi-finals after taking four points from two matches. Nigeria must now beat Côte d’Ivoire in their next group game to keep their own semi-final hopes alive. Udeze said Nigeria’s depth of young football talent made the result difficult for him to understand.
