Amichi Town Union Dispute: Stakeholders Say Trustees Cannot Automatically Take Over
Stakeholders in Amichi, Nnewi South LGA, have rejected claims that the union’s Registered Trustees can automatically take over leadership after the President-General’s four-year term expired. The dispute centres on a July 21, 2026 High Court order in Suit No. HN/215/2022. The order directs parties to maintain the status quo, prevents anyone from assuming the office of President-General, and bars a fresh election pending the determination of pending applications. A legal representative for one party argued that the order neither created a new tenure for the current executive nor authorised the trustees to take over. The Anambra State Government subsequently directed that the existing executive continue temporarily to avoid a leadership vacuum. Stakeholders have urged all factions to avoid self-help and seek clarification or variation of the order from the court.
