Oshiomhole Challenges Atiku’s Pledge to Restore Fuel Subsidy

Senator Adams Oshiomhole has questioned Atiku Abubakar’s pledge to restore fuel subsidy if elected president in 2027. Speaking during a television interview, Oshiomhole said Atiku had previously argued that petroleum subsidy was wasteful when he served as vice-president. He also recalled disagreeing with that position while leading the Nigeria Labour Congress. Oshiomhole further pointed to Atiku’s 2023 proposal to privatise the NNPC. He questioned how a privatised oil company could be allowed to operate independently while the government still controls fuel prices. Atiku has said restoring subsidy could ease living costs and make petrol more affordable. Oshiomhole said the proposal raises questions about consistency in Atiku’s economic position.
