Jelani Aliyu Urges ABU Students to Innovate and Build Nigeria’s Industrial Future
Automotive designer Jelani Aliyu has urged Ahmadu Bello University students to become fearless innovators who create solutions to Nigeria’s everyday challenges before they graduate. Speaking at the launch of ABU’s “Create Before You Graduate” programme, Aliyu said university education should build confidence, creativity and the capacity to create value, rather than end with a certificate. He encouraged students to use modern tools, mentorship and their talents to compete globally. Aliyu, a former Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council, called for stronger local production and innovation. He said Nigeria’s heavy dependence on imported manufactured goods is harmful to the economy, despite the country’s raw materials and human potential. He maintained that Nigeria can only achieve lasting progress through industrialisation, innovation and a determined drive to build sophisticated products locally.
