Ejiofor Warns Against Rising Political Violence Ahead of 2027 Elections

Human rights lawyer Ifeanyi Ejiofor has warned that clashes among political supporters, disputes over campaign billboards and other confrontations could fuel wider violence ahead of the 2027 general elections. He cited a reported disruption of a mobilisation rally involving supporters of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso in Warri, Delta State. He also referred to a dispute over the removal of political billboards in Ideato, Imo State, where a court reportedly issued an interim order restraining further action against the billboards. Ejiofor urged politicians, security agencies and young people to reject self-help and violence. He said political disagreements should be resolved through lawful protest, civic engagement, the courts and the ballot box rather than street clashes.
