Outrage as Gov. Mutfwang Visits Attack Survivors in Armoured Tank
Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang faced heavy criticism after arriving at the Angwan Rukuba community in an armoured personnel carrier following a deadly attack. Dozens were killed in the violence, but the governor remained inside the vehicle and did not step down to console residents. Former senator Babafemi Ojudu and other public figures took to social media to condemn the gesture. One survivor said, “He came, but he did not come down. People expected him to stand with them.” Critics say the imagery of a leader speaking from behind armour creates distance at a moment of grief. Defenders argue that security precautions are necessary in volatile areas. They stress that the focus should be on tackling the root causes of violence rather than criticizing security measures. Civil society groups, including Enough is Enough Nigeria, linked the attack to a broader pattern of insecurity. They called on the government to improve intelligence, accountability, and civilian protection to prevent further loss of life.
