Concacaf’s 41 Members Join UEFA in Rejecting FIFA World Cup Investment Plan

Concacaf’s 41 Members Join UEFA in Rejecting FIFA World Cup Investment Plan

Concacaf has joined UEFA in rejecting FIFA’s proposal to bring private investors into the commercial structure of the World Cup. Representatives of all 41 Concacaf member associations voted against the plan after raising concerns about due process, the short deadline for consideration, and the lack of review by FIFA’s relevant governance bodies. The confederation also questioned why private-equity funding was needed after FIFA staged what it described as the most profitable World Cup in history. Concacaf said the debate highlighted the need for stronger transparency and governance within world football. FIFA says the proposal would create a FIFA-owned commercial subsidiary that could attract long-term capital and expertise while FIFA retains ownership and control of the World Cup.
