When ‘Na Woman Na’ Excuses Violence: How We Lose Accountability
I watched a woman slap her partner repeatedly while bystanders cheered, claiming ‘na woman na’. No one stopped to ask if repeated physical strikes aren’t assault. That excuse removes responsibility and creates an environment where abuse thrives. When we say a man must not defend himself because his attacker is female, we teach people that violence is selective. Self-defence is not aggression. We must hold everyone accountable, regardless of gender. Excusing harm under the guise of protecting a stereotype only deepens injustice.
