Bangladesh President Shahabuddin Resigns Citing Health Issues
Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin has resigned, saying his health no longer allows him to carry out the duties of office. His resignation came before the end of his five-year term, which was due to expire in 2028. Parliament Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed accepted the resignation and is expected to serve as interim president until a new one is elected within 90 days. Shahabuddin had been president since April 2023 and served during a tense political period after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was removed from office in 2024.
