Fake Bandit Invasion Alert: Bayelsa Police Arrest UniUyo Student

Fake Bandit Invasion Alert: Bayelsa Police Arrest UniUyo Student — 1 of 4
1 / 4

Operatives of the Bayelsa State Police Command have arrested a 23-year-old University of Uyo student for spreading a false alarm about a bandit invasion and school attack in Bayelsa. On June 5, a social media post claimed bandits had infiltrated parts of the state and militants were holding them for ransom. The misleading report sparked panic. Parents rushed to schools, businesses paused, and residents feared for their safety. The police commissioner said intelligence-led digital investigations led detectives to identify and arrest the suspect at the State Criminal Investigation Department. He warned that cyberspace is not beyond the reach of law enforcement and urged residents to verify security alerts before sharing them.
