Are You Building a Relationship or Paying for Attention?
Many people confuse spending money with building a genuine relationship. A man may pay for dates, gifts, bills and upkeep while pursuing a woman, yet never ask whether she truly wants commitment or simply enjoys the benefits of his attention. This becomes more complicated when expectations are never discussed. One person may see financial support as a step towards marriage, while the other sees it as the minimum requirement for staying interested. Problems arise when someone starts funding a lifestyle they cannot afford and neglects their own goals or responsibilities. Financial support does not automatically make anyone exploitative. Partners may contribute differently based on their income and circumstances. What matters is honesty, loyalty, respect and a clear understanding of the relationship. Do not mistake money for emotional commitment. A partner should not be treated as a financial dependent or a source of funds. Before investing heavily in someone, be sure you are building a real partnership, not paying for the privilege of having them around.
