Ibadan Chaos: Tricycle Operator and Boy Killed in Yoruba–Hausa Clash
Tension has gripped the Ojoo area of Ibadan after a late-night dispute over a failed POS transaction turned deadly. A commercial tricycle operator was stabbed to death when a group of scavengers attacked him despite leaving his key and phone as collateral. The violence escalated into full gunfire the next morning. Traders shut their shops in fear after a stray bullet struck a young boy who was on his way to buy noodles. Residents say bullets flew everywhere as both sides exchanged fire. Witnesses accuse police officers at the scene of standing by without intervening. One trader narrowly escaped after being shot and described how quickly the conflict spread following the initial stabbing. The Oyo State Deputy Governor has visited the area to calm nerves. Community leaders are now demanding the removal of scavengers from the market, saying they no longer feel safe in Ojoo’s busy commercial hub.
