The Catholic Diocese of Awka has announced the death of its Vicar General, Very Rev. Fr. Peter Chudi Akaenyi. He died on Monday, October 19, 2026, after a brief illness. He was 77. Fr. Akaenyi was residing at Christ the King Parish in Adazi Nnukwu and served as a priest of the diocese until his death. He was born on January 8, 1949, and was ordained on June 30, 1979. The diocese expressed condolences to his family, parishioners and other mourners. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
