Nigerian Grandfather, 68, Earns First-Class Social Work Degree in the UK

Chris Osagbaekhoe, a Nigerian-born grandfather of 12, has graduated with first-class honours in Social Work from Goldsmiths, University of London, at age 68. He returned to university at 64 after earlier studying Psychology and Counselling. He said his desire to support vulnerable people and speak up for those facing difficult circumstances motivated him to pursue the degree. Osagbaekhoe, who lives with a mobility disability, said the challenges he faced strengthened his empathy and resolve. He is now seeking his first role as a qualified social worker and hopes to establish a community project that supports young people and helps keep them away from crime. He hopes his achievement will encourage mature students and people living with disabilities to pursue goals they may have postponed.
