NUJ Anambra Honours Martin Nwabueze, 12 Others at 35th Anniversary Awards
The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Anambra State Council, marked its 35th anniversary and 2026 Man of the Year Awards in Awka, honouring businessman and philanthropist High Chief Martin Nwabueze, popularly known as Ichie Akubudike. Nwabueze was recognised for his philanthropic and community-development projects, including entrepreneurship grants, medical outreach, scholarships, youth empowerment, housing support and sports development. Twelve other personalities and 15 journalists also received awards in several categories. At the event, the NUJ national president called for a special salary structure and health insurance coverage for journalists. The state government urged media professionals to uphold responsible reporting and avoid sensational coverage that could cause public unrest.
