Should I Tell My Co-tenants We Can Cut Water Pumping Costs?
In my estate, the entire area is on Band E electricity, but my apartment is on Band A. Because of the poor supply, we take turns buying four litres of fuel for the caretaker’s generator to pump water. We pump water about 15 times monthly in the rainy season and up to 20 times in the dry season. This costs each tenant roughly ₦11,000 every month, and we have done this for over two years. Last week, I used electricity from my apartment to pump water. All three tanks were filled in two hours and 27 minutes, at a cost of just ₦310. I suggested pumping water for everyone at ₦2,600 per tenant monthly whenever there is power in my apartment, but the caretaker said I should only use my electricity when it is my turn. Should I inform the other tenants about this cheaper option, or should I stay out of it?
