Outrage as Bandits Kill Four Farmers and Kidnap Dozen in Sokoto’s Gandi District
Armed bandits launched a broad-daylight raid on farmlands in Gandi District, Rabah LGA of Sokoto State on June 16, 2026. The gunmen struck around 11 a.m., killing four farmers instantly and abducting at least 12 others. One landowner, Malam Tukur Muhammad, said he had stopped cultivating the plot because of persistent insecurity but later allowed relatives to farm there. “They were working when the bandits attacked,” he recalled, adding that one injured victim is receiving treatment at a local hospital. Security sources confirm that troops from Operation FANSAN YAMMA based at Gandi FOB responded swiftly. They rescued seven of the kidnapped victims and recovered two motorcycles during the encounter. One civilian was wounded and taken to Gandi General Hospital. Residents remain in fear, lamenting that eastern Sokoto has become unsafe. Community and security agencies are appealing for heightened protection measures.
