Video Shows Bundles of Naira Notes Found Mouldy and Damaged in Sacks
A circulating video shows bundles of badly damaged naira notes being brought out of several sacks. The notes appear mouldy, discoloured and may have been stored in damp conditions for a long period. Hausa can be heard in the background, but the location and circumstances of the footage have not been independently confirmed. It is also unclear who owned the cash or whether any of the notes can still be recovered. The video has sparked concern about the risks of keeping large sums of cash at home. Beyond the loss to the owner, the sight of ruined money is painful at a time when many Nigerians are struggling to meet basic needs.
