Archbishop Okeke Marks 73rd Birthday With Gifts and Message of Hope for Onitsha Inmates
Archbishop Valerian Maduka Okeke marked his 73rd birthday with inmates at the Onitsha Custodial Centre, urging them to focus on gratitude rather than their troubles. He said thanksgiving and sharing with others are important expressions of faith. The Archbishop donated cows, bags of rice, clothing, toiletries and other items to the inmates. He also welcomed the reported decline in the centre’s inmate population, describing it as a positive sign for society. Officials praised his long-running support for the facility, including schools, an Open University centre and skills-acquisition programmes for people in custody. The Archbishop has celebrated his birthday with inmates for about 20 years.
