Abuja Job Interviews: Invited, Waited Hours, Then Sent Home—Why?

Abuja Job Interviews: Invited, Waited Hours, Then Sent Home—Why?

Hello everyone, I’ve noticed a frustrating pattern in Abuja job interviews and wonder if others have too. In the past month I applied for Administrative Assistant roles at three different organizations. Each time I got an online invitation, travelled in full business attire, waited hours, and was sent home without a word. They asked me to bring printed CVs, pay for transport, and dress up. But at the end, only other candidates were called forward. I never got a chance to speak or answer any questions. Has anyone else experienced this? Why would employers invite qualified applicants only to turn them away on arrival?

Have you noticed if certain industries or recruiters in Abuja tend to invite candidates then dismiss them without explanation?

You're right, na common experience here. Some recruiters no even reason with candidates after interview.

It seems some firms might be using interviews as a screening delay tactic rather than genuine hiring steps.

I understand the frustration, but perhaps scheduling issues or sudden changes explain delays more than deliberate stalling.

I think blaming Abuja's recruiters solely might overlook your preparation or follow-up approach before and after interviews.

Try sending a follow-up thank you email within 24 hours, and politely ask for feedback to improve next application.
