Tobi Amusan Targets Historic Third Straight Commonwealth Games Hurdles Gold
Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan begins her bid for a record third straight Commonwealth Games gold medal in the women’s 100m hurdles on Thursday in Glasgow. The world-record holder is in the first heat with Ghana’s Evonne Britton, Canada’s Mariam Abdul-Rashid and Jamaica’s Kerrica Hill. Other leading contenders, including Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas and Jamaica’s Megan Simmonds, will compete in the second heat. The heats start at 11:30 a.m., while the final is scheduled for 9:49 p.m. at Scotstoun Stadium. Amusan enters as the favourite after running a season’s best of 12.28 seconds and winning Diamond League races in Paris and Rabat. Having won gold at Gold Coast 2018 and Birmingham 2022, Amusan can become the first woman to claim three consecutive Commonwealth 100m hurdles titles. She could also improve on her Games record of 12.30 seconds.
