What Does It Mean to Pray in the Spirit?

Prayer helps Christians worship God, seek guidance, intercede for others, confess sins and give thanks. Scripture also encourages believers to pray in the Spirit. Ephesians 6:18 calls Christians to pray at all times with every kind of prayer and supplication in the Spirit. Jude 20 similarly urges believers to build their faith by praying in the Holy Spirit. Praying in the Spirit means allowing the Holy Spirit to guide and shape prayer according to God’s will. Romans 8:26 teaches that the Spirit helps believers in their weakness, especially when they do not know what to pray for.
