Enugu United Palm Products Begins Commercial Palm Oil Production, Invests $2.2m in Refinery
Enugu United Palm Products Limited, a partnership between the Enugu State Government and Pragmatic Palms Limited, has started commercial palm oil production for the Nigerian market. The company says it has restored plantations in Ibite-Olo, Umulokpa and Ugwu-Oba, and replanted more than 1,000 hectares of ageing palm trees. The firm has installed mills and is investing $2.2 million in a refinery to process crude palm oil into olein and stearin, as well as refine palm kernel oil. Its EVOP palm oil brand is already being sold in markets and supermarkets, while sachet packs are expected to be introduced soon. Governor Peter Mbah said the state would support the company with access roads, security and the 6,700 hectares pledged under the partnership. The company says it is targeting further expansion, stronger agricultural value chains and a possible Nigerian stock market listing within four years.
