The Dutch central bank has relocated part of the Netherlands’ gold reserves from the United States and Canada to the United Kingdom, saying the move will improve access to the assets during a severe crisis. The transfer involved selling about 59 tonnes of gold in New York and repurchasing it in London. More than 27 tonnes were also physically moved from the US and Canada to Zeist, while a similar quantity was transferred from Zeist to London. The gold moved from New York was valued at about $10.7 billion, while just over $1 billion was shifted from Ottawa based on December 2025 valuations. The central bank said the relocation strengthens the country’s resilience and preparedness amid heightened geopolitical tensions.
