Police Rescue Suspected Transformer Vandal After Explosion in Calabar

Police in Calabar, Cross River State, have rescued a 36-year-old man suspected of vandalising a transformer after an explosion disrupted power supply at Agbo Ntoe Layout, off Parliamentary Extension. Residents said they heard the explosion at about 2:21 a.m. and later found the suspect with burn injuries near the transformer. Some residents allegedly attempted to attack him, but community leaders intervened and contacted the police. Officers from B Division rescued the man and took him for medical treatment after obtaining his statement. Police say preliminary findings suggest he may be linked to earlier transformer vandalism in the area, while efforts are ongoing to identify any possible accomplices. The command urged residents to report suspicious activity around electricity installations to the police rather than confront suspects themselves. The suspect is presumed innocent while investigations continue.
