Kwara Police Nab Two Bandits, Seize AK-47s and Ammunition in Baruten Raid
The Kwara State Police Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit carried out a tactical raid on June 6 at a suspected hideout in Okuta, Baruten LGA. Two suspected bandits, Bello Mohammed (28) and Abubakar Mohammed (25), were arrested and linked to a network behind recent kidnappings and armed attacks. Officers recovered two AK-47 rifles, 65 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, two cutlasses, a dagger, criminal charms, and other materials used to restrain victims. During interrogation, one suspect admitted to losing three fingers in a previous clash with security operatives. A follow-up operation on June 7 led to the arrest of Umoru Saliu (58), alleged to have provided shelter for the gang’s leaders and members. The command says it is pursuing fleeing suspects and aims to dismantle the entire criminal network. The Commissioner of Police hailed the operation as a major breakthrough in the fight against violent crime in Baruten. All those found culpable will be charged to court after investigations conclude.
