Group Demands Probe as Former Alpha-Beta Staff Face Cybercrime Charges

The Youth Rights Campaign has called for an independent investigation into Alpha-Beta Consulting LLP, a tax consulting firm long linked to President Bola Tinubu, over allegations of corruption, tax evasion and forgery. The group said former Alpha-Beta IT auditor Oluwasegun Oluwasanmi and four other former employees are facing cybercrime-related charges at the Federal High Court in Lagos. Prosecutors allege conspiracy, cyberbullying, threatening messages and online publications connected to reports about the company and its managing director. YRC described the prosecution as retaliation against a whistleblower. It said Oluwasanmi had raised concerns about alleged fraud, inflated contracts, vendor overpayments and tax issues before leaving the firm in January 2025. The group also alleged that petitions submitted to anti-corruption and law-enforcement agencies have not been properly investigated. The organisation demanded that the charges be withdrawn, the corruption petitions be reopened, and the conduct of the police officers and prosecutors involved be independently reviewed. The allegations and claims have not been established by a court.

What would an independent investigation need to publish for people to trust its findings in a case involving corruption, tax evasion and forgery allegations?

Exactly. Credibility comes from verifiable evidence, clear methods, and full disclosure of who conducted the probe.

The call for a probe shows why allegations linked to politically connected firms often draw wider public concern than the individual charges alone.

A demand for investigation is fair, but the allegations and the charges should not be treated as proof before a proper process tests them.

Any probe should clearly separate the former staff members' cybercrime case from the separate allegations against Alpha-Beta, then state its evidence and scope.
