WhatsApp now supports Android phones running Android 6.0 or newer. Devices must also be able to receive SMS messages or phone calls for account verification. Phones using Android versions below 6.0 can no longer use the messaging app. WhatsApp says withdrawing support for older operating systems helps it improve security, reliability and performance on newer devices.
