UNIDO Selects Ogun for Circular Economy and Renewable-Energy Waste Project
Ogun State has been selected by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization as a core state for a project supporting Nigeria’s transition to a greener, circular economy. The project will focus on managing used off-grid renewable-energy equipment and improving data systems for related waste. At a workshop in Abeokuta, the state government said the initiative would promote recycling, resource efficiency, waste reduction and green jobs. Officials highlighted existing measures including biomass smokeless stoves, electric motorcycles, CNG buses, household waste sorting, plastic-for-cash schemes and community recycling projects. UNIDO’s Nigeria office urged the state to sustain its environmental initiatives.
