Oba Ewuare II Orders Grassroots Security Groups in Edo South
During a June 24 meeting at the Oba Palace in Benin City, Oba Ewuare II directed the Okaighele of the seven Edo South local governments to form community-based security groups. The initiative responds to growing concerns over kidnapping and violent crime across Edo State. Each Okaighele must recruit five to ten able-bodied volunteers from their community. The lists of nominees will be sent to Chief Ima Iyase, the Okao N'Oregwa, who will coordinate the new security structure kingdom-wide. The palace says this grassroots effort will strengthen vigilance and protect lives and property. It follows emergency consultations with traditional leaders, priests, and community heads earlier this month and will continue as part of a lasting security strategy.
