Tinubu Says Economic Reforms Are Laying Foundation for Growth and Jobs
President Bola Tinubu says his administration’s economic reforms are aimed at building sustainable growth, attracting investment and improving living standards. Speaking through Vice-President Kashim Shettima at the Nigerian Economic Summit in Abuja, Tinubu said the government took difficult decisions to address long-standing economic weaknesses and create opportunities for jobseekers, farmers, manufacturers and entrepreneurs. He said the economy grew by 3.89 per cent in the first quarter of 2026, while non-oil activities accounted for 96.08 per cent of GDP. He added that capital importation rose to $10.37 billion during the period. Tinubu said the reforms must deliver tangible improvements in Nigerians’ livelihoods, not just stronger economic indicators.
