FG Targets December 2026 Completion for Kaduna–Kano and Kano–Daura Rail Sections
The Federal Government says the Kaduna–Kano and Kano–Daura sections of the Kano–Maradi Railway Development Project are expected to be completed and commissioned by December 2026. Officials who inspected the project said overall work is about 70–75% complete. The Kaduna–Zaria–Kano section is reportedly 80–85% complete and has moved into finishing works. The project has also created more than 4,500 jobs. The rail corridor is intended to improve links between northern Nigeria and Niger Republic, a landlocked country whose goods could move through Nigerian ports. The Kano–Maradi line will run through stations including Kazaure, Daura, Jibiya, Dutse, Dambatta, Mashi and Maradi. Unlike Nigeria’s dual-track western and central standard-gauge lines, the Kano–Maradi route is being built as a single-track line.
