44 Borno Schoolchildren Remain Missing After 110 Days in Captivity

Forty-four children abducted from Mussa Central Primary School in Askira-Uba LGA, Borno State, have spent more than 100 days in captivity. Armed attackers stormed the school on May 15, 2026, taking dozens of pupils. The number was initially reported as 42, but officials later confirmed that 44 children were missing. Their families still have no clear information about where the children are or their condition. Parents protested in Uba on August 20 and later took their demands to the National Assembly. Governor Babagana Zulum has said federal and state authorities are working to secure the children’s release, but the families are asking for visible progress. The case has renewed concerns about whether authorities act with enough urgency when public attention fades from kidnapping victims.
